South Yorkshire Police Authority is committed to valuing diversity within the county. It has a duty to promote and implement equality of opportunity in both South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Police Authority. This is fundamental within the Police and Police Authority in order to build a nature of trust with the diverse communities that we serve.

The Authority will work towards ensuring the people of South Yorkshire are receiving an equality of service regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender, nationality, religion or any other individual characteristic.

It will do this by;

• Addressing the Authority’s own ways of working and make certain that equalities and human rights considerations are an integral part of everything we do.
• Holding the Chief Constable to account for their effectiveness in tackling issues regarding diversity, equality and human rights.
• Consulting and engaging with the widest range of people possible within South Yorkshire. The Authority will listen and react upon the views of diverse groups in order to build the trust needed to serve the varying communities.

Much progress has been made in South Yorkshire in light of a number of measures including Equality Act 2010, Equality Standard for the Police Service and Equality, Diversity & Human Rights Strategy for the Police Service. However we do recognise that there is still work to do.

Our aim is that within the Authority and Constabulary, equality and diversity will be a daily thought in the workplace. To aid this aim, the Authority drafted a report on Equality, Diversity, and Human Rights.
