South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority has appointed Mark Shaw as Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

Mark, from Swallownest, Rotherham, is a fire officer with more than 27 years service in  South Yorkshire.

He will take up his role immediately and become the director responsible for service development within South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

Mr Shaw said: "I am absolutely delighted to accept the position.  The role of the Fire Service has expanded enormously over recent years placing the community and its needs at the centre of all we seek to achieve.  I am proud to be given the opportunity to contribute to our ongoing successes in this arena.

"I am committed to working with our employees, partners and all sections of our community to achieve our vision of a safer South Yorkshire".

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority Chair, Cllr Jim Andrews added:  "We congratulate Mr Shaw on his appointment following what was a rigorous interview process.  We look forward to working with him further on the future development of the fire service in South Yorkshire".
