Joint Secretariat Corporate Strategy launched
5/5/10
South Yorkshire Joint Secretariat has launched a new Corporate Strategy for the period 2010-13 setting out its key aims, vision and values.
The Barnsley-based organisation, which provides treasury, legal, audit, HR and policy support to the four Joint Authorities in South Yorkshire - Poilce, Fire and Rescue, Transport and Pensions - will use the Strategy to ensure public bodies continue to achieve value for money.
Key themes in the strategy include:
- Enabling customers to fulfil all their roles and statutory responsibilities.
- Providing effective and proactive support for customers in their business affairs.
- Developing the Joint Secretariat's role and services around the region.
- Ensuring the concepts of economy, efficiency, effectiveness and equality are integral to the way the Joint Secretariat carries out its functions.
Bill Wilkinson OBE, Clerk and Treasurer at the South Yorkshire Joint Secretariat, said: "The SYJS recognises the need at a time of economic uncertainty for public sector organisations, such as ourselves, to look closely at the services we provide so as to ensure we offer a first-class, value-for-money service.
"We felt it was time to re-examine the building blocks of our Corporate Strategy, our vision, mission, corporate values and strategic objectives. This has led us to what we consider to be a transformational three-year strategy for the Joint Secretariat.
"The strategy sets out a 'Commitment to Excellence' with a strong focus on our customers and a desire for continuous improvement.
"The very real threat of budget cuts in the public sector and the consequent job losses during the lifetime of this plan means that all public sector organisations will be trying to maintain the same level of service to their communities with far fewer resources. The pubilc sector will have to look at doing things differently.
"The Joint Secretariat could be part of the solution to these challenges. Our aim is to assist wherever it makes sense to do so".
The SYJS also provides support to bodies such as the South Yorkshire Lord Lieutenancy office, The Robin Hood Airport Consultative Committee, the Association of Metropolitan Fire and Resuce Authorities and the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan Partnership.
