Welcome to consultation on the Sheffield City Region Transport Strategy - incorporating South Yorkshire's 3rd Local Transport Plan

 

The South Yorkshire LTP Partnership and the Sheffield City Region (SCR) are currently developing the Sheffield City Region Transport Strategy, incorporating the 3rd South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (LTP3). This will cover the period from 2011 to 2026.

The Transport Plan will set out how ‘transport’ will help deliver the wider vision of the Sheffield City Region. This will be undertaken by delivering against 4 key transport goals:

  1. To enhance and unlock the economic growth of SCR, through tackling unreliability on all transport networks, congestion and overcrowding, improving connections, enhancing the attractiveness of key locations and ensuring equality of opportunity - effectively linking people to jobs, training and education opportunities
  2. To make real progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving environmental quality in the Sheffield City Region enhance its position as a city region valuing sustainability at its heart
  3. To focus on lifestyle and health benefits and quality of life for the people of the city region – capitalizing on the city region’s high quality nature environment and green spaces
  4. To make transport safe and secure – especially to those more vulnerable or more at risk

We are therefore pleased to present our draft Transport Strategy and we would like to receive your thoughts on whether you think we have the right balance of policies to achieve these goals

To improve rail connections to London and our surrounding cities, and ensure good access to train stations • ensure good access to airports and support Robin Hood Airport Doncaster-Sheffield • use technology to manage the road network to tackle congestion, improve reliability, provide better information and reduce the need to travel • invest in new infrastructure, either road or public transport, where it can best support job creation and business growth • link people to jobs, training and education opportunities, through public transport and an efficient road network We must ensure that economic growth is sustainable and reduces our greenhouse gas (carbon) emissions • develop public transport, walking and cycling so they become people’s first choice • concentrate new development where public transport is good or can be provided, in particular in existing urban areas • lead the way in using new vehicle technology to reduce carbon emissions so that our cars become less polluting. . . . . . . . and your thoughts are?
