Consulting with the community
South Yorkshire Police Authority is committed to making sure that the people of South Yorkshire have a say in how they are policed. We do this using a number of different techniques including public questionnaires, focus groups and roadshows.
PUBLIC QUESTIONNAIRE
Your Voice Counts Questionnaires are issued jointly by South Yorkshire Police Authority and South Yorkshire Police.
The objectives of these questionnaires are to:
- Help the Chief Constable and members of the Police Authority to monitor the impact of neighbourhood policing based on people's perceptions
- Provide data which will help to inform the work of your local area.
Respondents to Your Voice Counts may be invited to Focus Group meetings to examine their answers in more depth. The questionnaire results show us ‘what’ people feel or think and Focus Groups help us to find out the ‘where’ and ‘why’.

ROADSHOWS 2010
Over the past few weeks South Yorkshire Police Authority's summer roadshows have been popping up in shopping centres across the County.
Members and Officers of the Police Authority supported by Neighbourhood Watch Co-Ordinators have heard views on policing from people living in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
Tracy Webster, Community Engagement Officer said: 'The roadshows have once again proved popular with people of all ages. A young man out shopping with his Grandma in Barnsley was keen to share with me his knowledge of Safer Neighbourhood Teams. He told me how his local SNT had worked hard to reduce anti social behaviour and clean up graffiti and litter in his local park. His Mum was now happy to let him to play in there again.'
NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICING AND CONSULTATION
Nearly a fifth of South Yorkshire Police Officers and staff work on the 56 Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT's) across the Force. SNT's consist of police officers, police community support officers (PCSO's), special constables and Local Authority Neighbourhood Wardens/Ambassadors and managers. The SNT’s are dedicated teams who are visible and accessible to communities. The public will know how to contact them and who they are.
SNT staff will engage with the community to ensure that people have a real say in identifying issues of concern and will work with partners in order to address those concerns.
