Public Given Voice on Police Matters at Roadshows

South Yorkshire Police Authority are once again preparing to hit the road with their annual Community Engagement Roadshows.

There are five roadshows taking place at Barnsley, Meadowhall, Doncaster, Sheffield’s Winter Gardens and Rotherham, allowing the public to voice their opinions on a whole range of police issues such as neighbourhood policing and anti-social behaviour.

The roadshows follow on from the success of last year, which were attended by hundreds of people from the region.

Tracy Webster, the Police Authority’s community engagement officer said: ‘It’s vitally important that the people of South Yorkshire, as investors in policing via their council tax, have a say in how they are policed.

She added: “At this year’s roadshows we are looking forward to hearing the views of even more people than we did last year as we want to find out how people feel about policing and whether they receive a good service.”

South Yorkshire Police Authority also wish to hear people’s views on restorative justice, which involves victims of minor crimes meeting with the offender and a police officer to agree how the offender can make good the harm done to the victim.

Tracy said: “The Police Authority is the link between local people and South Yorkshire Police and we have a responsibility to obtain the views of the public on the service they receive.”

The Police Authority stand will be at the following venues from 10am until 2pm:

Wednesday 9 June –    Mall Alhambra, Barnsley
Thursday 10 June    –    Meadowhall, Upper Mall, near M&S
Tuesday 22June     –    Frenchgate Centre, Doncaster
Tuesday 6 July         –    Winter Garden, Sheffield

Details of the Rotherham Town Centre Roadshow will be confirmed shortly.
