A former police personnel carrier vehicle is being donated to Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Search and Rescue (YALSAR) by South Yorkshire Police Authority.

South Yorkshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) will take office in just 200 days’ time (milestone as of May 7).

“It is vitally important that the public, partner organisations and district councils take notice of the changes as it will have an impact for everyone.”

South Yorkshire Police Authority is recruiting new Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) to check on the welfare of people being held in police cells.

The visits made by ICVs offer the opportunity to observe, comment and report on the rights, health and welfare of people in custody, as well as the conditions of the detention facilities.

Following negotiations with NPAS, the Authority has agreed in principle to join the national scheme on the basis that the coverage will be divided between a Sheffield-based aircraft and the NPAS.

Following today’s meeting the Police Authority can confirm that police constables will continue to work alongside Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). This is not the end of bobbies on the beat.
